How we compare HP 219 toner

Transparent rules instead of a blanket 'best buy' badge.

Which retailers and offers we include

The UK data set currently covers 13 retailers and 79 offer records, 56 of them with a checked numeric price. A retailer is included when it sells the exact product to UK customers and the listing can be verified. Whether a retailer pays commission is never a reason to include it, leave it out or move it up.

UK pages use UK retailers only. Dutch and German shops are not listed here, even where they deliver to the UK.

Prices including VAT

The main price we show is the consumer price including VAT, as displayed by the retailer. Some UK suppliers lead with prices excluding VAT; where a retailer shows both, we keep both and rank on the VAT-inclusive figure, so one shop's ex-VAT price is never compared with another shop's inc-VAT price. We do not add VAT ourselves to a figure the retailer has not stated.

Freshness

Every numeric price links to the exact listing it was read from and carries the date it was checked. After 14 days a price is no longer shown as a number; the offer stays as a link to the retailer. Stock and delivery statements are shown for at most 2 days after they were checked. A label such as "Checked today" describes our check, not a guarantee that the retailer has not changed its price since.

Delivery charges

Unknown delivery is never treated as free. We only calculate a delivered total when the delivery charge is known, and we keep the retailer's own scope: free delivery to UK mainland is not presented as free delivery to the whole of the UK, and a promise that depends on the destination is labelled as conditional.

Where page yields come from

  1. HP UK product pages for original HP cartridges;
  2. HP support documents and official HP datasheets;
  3. other official HP documentation.

Retailers are a source for prices, stock, delivery, sellers and claims about their own products — not for HP's specifications. HP states the yields of the HP 219 series under ISO/IEC 19798 with continuous printing. Some UK retailers describe page life with a generic "5% coverage" template; we do not use that to describe HP's method.

Cost per page

Cost per page is the checked price including VAT divided by the stated yield of that exact product. We calculate it ourselves rather than copying a retailer's figure. For compatible toner we use only the yield stated for that specific product by its seller or manufacturer; we never divide a compatible price by HP's yield.

Which compatible products qualify

The UK data set currently holds 30 compatible product identities. Each is its own product with its own brand, seller, exact listing, stated yield and the source of that yield. To appear with a price, a compatible product needs an exact UK listing, the correct OEM, colour and pack mapping, and a recently checked price. Warranty or return terms are shown when the seller states them.

Marketplaces and Amazon.co.uk

On a marketplace the platform and the seller are different parties. Without approved Amazon data we do not copy Amazon prices, star ratings, review counts or images; an Amazon link then leads to the listing or a search where Amazon shows the current price.

Commission and ranking

Offers are ranked on the delivered total when every compared delivery charge is known, otherwise on the product price; freshness decides between otherwise equal offers. Commission rates, cookie durations and programme status are never ranking inputs. See the affiliate disclosure.

No physical testing

219toner.com has not physically tested the cartridges listed. We compare manufacturer statements, retailer data and market offers, so we do not use labels such as "best in test" or "test winner".
